(a) Layering, lettering, the usage of photographs, a strong sense of texture, and
a fondness for monochromatic tones are characteristics of Jette’s work. “I’m
interested in the relationship between time and language,” she says. “Here, I
rusted the fabric with objects we found in the ground when we were rebuilding
our home.”

quilter’s profile
Former journalist and jazz club owner Jette Clover was born and raised in
Copenhagen, Denmark, but has lived, worked, exhibited, and taught widely across
Europe and the United States. She now lives in Belgium with her husband, an
American jazz musician. Quilting is the culmination of her deeply artistic
nature. “My work is constructed like collage, and it’s as much about touch as it
is about vision,” she says. Enraptured by texture, she often combines cotton,
linen, silk, cheesecloth, and paper, and applies a variety of surface
techniques, including painting, printing, and screening.
