Tie One On

November 29, 2007
By Barbara Martin, Executive Editor

For some of us, the onset of the holidays is marked by the first card sent or received. But here at HOME COMPANION, the official start of the season is when style editor Kathy Curotto and I begin to gather papers and ribbons for the December photo shoots.

It’s as close as I’ll ever get to winning the lottery.

Our craft room turns into a wonderland laden with hundreds of ribbons in silks, velvets, taffetas, chenille, etc., in colors that rival a Pantone swatch book—all of it ready to be tied, strung, and looped.

Forget sugar and spice. Here are just a couple of samples of what dreams are made of.

oh, my! It's why I try to avoid the ribbon aisles at the trade shows, they are all so gorgeous, before I know it, I've ordered hundreds of dollars worth to play with! They are even sooooo much better in person. Lidy

Love the ribbons! I use them sometimes in my designs if you go to my blog you can see a snowman card that I used with paint and fabric. By the way I have a boxed card/giftbag giveaway there too!!! Happy decorating.

there is something about ribbons...maybe because they are the final tie on a gift, the embellishment that makes us all take note of the present. The colors are yummy, they add the details that finish off our projects. I just created an Advent Calendar made of felt mittens, each one topped off with 2 pieces of gingham ribbons. Happy Holidays, carol eldridge

All of those ribbons huddled, together like family embracing, make me wonder, where are they going next? Where is their final destination, their purpose? Will they top the box of a special gift; hang an ornament on a couple's first tree; will they tie up a little girl's locks? Tell me please what's to come of all of those beauties!!! Inspiration for my creative mind in the form of ribbons... I LOVE it!
