Whether she's perusing vintage gardening books, wrapping scones and other baked goodies, or covering the table with drafting paper and sketching her floral fantasies, Brenda cherishes time in her craft room. And she loves being surrounded by her canine collectibles—figurines and paint-by-number dog portraits inspired by her miniature schnauzer Elliot. “I started canvassing garage sales and flea markets for dog art before it became hip—and pricey,” she says. It was Linda and Laura who encouraged Brenda to transform a few random pieces into a true collection.
Brenda finds that keeping the room clean and uncluttered cuts down on the kitsch factor. “This is such an incredible environment,” she says. “Sunlight pours in and warms the entire space. Everything I need is accessible.”
“If we had our way,” says Linda with a laugh, “we’d change the quote to ‘Every woman needs a craft room of her own!”

Every great craft room starts with a work table. Linda and Laura added wheels to raise Brenda’s table (a flea-market find) to 36 inches.
Be creative with storage. Stash unsightly tools in pretty containers and display them on open bookshelves.
If you don’t have a spare room, retrofit a closet for your crafting needs. Portable gift packaging stations are another alternative, perfect for storing supplies. Plus, they can double as workstations.
