Gianna and Darren are constantly adding to their archive of museum-quality
antique toys and ephemera, and they don’t believe in keeping it behind glass.
“We love using some of the less fragile stuff as party decorations. Guests
really respond to it. It’s like having a house full of conversation
pieces.”
The ornate miniature theaters scattered around are a memento of her
days as a set designer and puppet maker. “I’ve always explored my interests,
even when they didn’t seem to make sense. If you do what you love and put it out
there, someone will get it. I’m proof that you can make a living by pursuing
your passions.” Then the doorbell rings. The guests are here. Let the games

The antique fireplace screen doubles as a table. (l) A miniature theater
from the late 1800s, made for a Parisian toy store. “I got it at auction.”
“I keep the bedroom soft and serene, so my mind can relax. It’s the exact
opposite of my studio.” (m) Weathered old doors from a Paris courtyard, found
at an architectural salvage store, form a backdrop for a modern leather sleigh
bed. “The bed was a splurge, but I got it on sale.” Inexpensive contemporary
chandeliers are paired with antique iron sconces and French night tables. “I
needed tall tables because the bed is so high—I have to hop into it.” Luna
snuggles in an ornately carved piece from an old church. “This is where she
sleeps every night.”
