When it came to decorating her children’s bedrooms, Cathy Chesser looked no
further than their passions. To conjure a sense of the Wild West in her sons’
cowboy-and- Indian-themed room, she hung reproduction rodeo posters on the
walls. Nineteen-year-old Alyrose’s fondness for horses made decorating a
no-brainer. Still, Cathy gently reined in the horsy theme. “That way when she’s
over it, we’re not so locked in.”

pieces that continue to work as my children mature.”

Alyrose’s equestrian theme and was the basis for the room’s color palette. To
celebrate her daughter’s love of reading, Cathy Chesser hung old books over the
bed, attaching flower picks and vintage lace to add interest. (l) Alyrose scoured
