Theatrical Gestures
To the Johnses, work and play are one and the same. Ben is CEO of Scout Ltd.,
a company that encompasses two home décor importing and manufacturing
businesses, Bungalow and Park Design. Deb, design director for Bungalow, also
runs Get Dressed Wardrobe and Home, a consulting business, and Fifi, a
thrice-yearly international boutique for private clients. So, whether
they’re using the pool house as a showcase for Fifi or a Green Acres-themed
benefit for Hurricane Katrina, one thing’s for sure: a splendid time will be had
by all. “This can be a high-pressure town, so Ben and I created an
environment that doesn’t take itself too seriously,” Deb says. Like the main
house, the guest quarters are a distillation of Deb’s unique design vision: a
lighthearted balance between old and new, refined and funky. “We want our kids
and guests to know that they can relax and let their hair down here.”

colorful stuff,” Deb says. “They work really hard in school, so this place
provides a balance for them.” (l) On the upper floor, festive paper
lanterns hang from the beams beneath a stairway.
