Pamela Crocker-Ely hates to part with anything she’s had for a long time, particularly if it was given to her by someone special. So, when faced with a move from a sprawling Texas ranch home to a 1,200 square-foot boathouse in Southport, Connecticut, what did she do?
She prioritized. “I edited to meet my present needs and put seasonal things in storage, which allows me to rotate and recycle,” she says. “Having an interior design firm for over a decade has taught me that scale, color, and placement are the keys to make any space work, regardless of square footage.”

(e) A framed Chanel scarf that Pamela bought 20 years ago makes a fashion statement in the living room. The vintage bamboo trunk doubles as linen storage. Shimmering pillows add luxury.

Proper Placement
“The name ‘Crocker’ dates from the 1400s and comes from the occupation of its bearers, potters or makers of crocks.” Maybe that explains her love of containers. (f) She enjoys finding a home for things, be it a basket to cradle photos, (g) or a footed dish for fruit. (h) Beakers pose as vases.
