how to make
Creating the silhouette 1 Take picture of child or pet in profile against a
bare wall. If using a digital camera, download favorite image, scale to desired
size, and print on copy paper. If using traditional camera, use a copy machine
to enlarge or reduce image to size that will fit the frame you have chosen. 2 Cut out image to use as a pattern. Trace around
the edge of the pattern on the back side of decorative paper or fabric. Cut
out. 3 Whether you made your silhouette from fabric or
paper, you can use your sewing machine set to a small zigzag stitch to sew the
silhouette to the background fabric or paper. TIP: Sew the silhouette on a piece
of fabric or paper larger than you need, then cut it to fit perfectly after you
have sewn the silhouette in place. Or, simply glue the silhouette to the
background. 4 Add a bead or two or ribbon bow for final
touch.
Decorating the frames 1 You might want to simply paint the frame with
acrylic paint. Sand lightly first. After paint has dried, use sandpaper
again to rough up the edges a little for texture. 2 Or, choose one of the fabrics to cover the frame.
First, trace an outline of the frame, face down, on the wrong side of the
fabric. Then turn the frame over and draw an X from the inside corner to corner
of the frame. Cut along traced outline, then cut along X so that there are four
triangular flaps. Apply an even coat of Mod Podge to the front of the frame,
then lay fabric on top. Smooth fabric. Turn frame over and apply Mod Podge to
back. Pull triangular flaps snug and smooth from front through to back of frame.
Trim excess fabric. When dry, apply second coat of Mod Podge to front of
frame. Let dry. 3 To cover frame with paper, first trace around
inner and outer edges of frame on reverse side of decorative paper. Trim paper
to size of frame, apply Mod Podge to frame, smooth paper in place. Let dry and
apply a finish coat of Mod Podge.
