Hang it up for the holidays visual

(a) Snip garlands of felt poinsettias, each with a beaded center, to trim this layered table skirt, then accent the look with a wintry poinsettia wreath hanging above.
(b) Flowers on the net overskirt form a sparkling, icy layer over the soft white felt beneath.

To Make
1 Follow instructions for Butterick pattern #B4479, view B. Make two skirts, one of felt and one of netting.
2 Download Trims Templates
3 Use flower patterns to cut 16 each of A and B and 96 each of C and D. Each flower is made of two flower shapes layered over each other. Lay all of the B’s on top of all of the A’s and all of the D’s on top of the C’s.
4 To construct flowers, fold one of the layered poinsettias in half, right sides in. Stitch 1⁄4 inch in center across fold, catching all four layers. Stitch twice. Open poinsettia, then fold in half the opposite direction and stitch at center as above. These two steps will create a “dimple” at the center of the flower so that it will have some dimension when you open it.
5 Using the same needle and thread pulled to the front of the flower, sew one bead at the center of the dimple on small flowers and three at the center of large ones.
6 Knot thread on back of flowers, cut. Set flowers aside.
7 Fold the net table skirt in eighths. Mark a spot 12 inches up from the bottom on both sides, through all layers. Also mark a spot 8 inches up from the bottom in the center through all layers. These spots will mark the placement of the large poinsettias.
8 Open skirt and lay out on a flat surface. Pin all large poinsettias on marked points. Arrange small ones in curved lines in between large ones, using six small flowers, overlapped slightly, for each swag.
9 Place net skirt over round table, check flower placement, and adjust as needed.
10 Use fabric glue or hand sewing to attach flowers to skirt.
11 To make borders, cut patterns from scalloped-edge and straightedge border templates. Tape pieces together to make longer templates. Trace onto felt and cut out.
12 Pin scalloped border to edge of net skirt and hand stitch or glue in place. Trim edges of straight border with scallop-edged scissors. Pin it slightly over the edge of the scalloped border and hand stitch or glue it in place.
