it’s showtime
Step right up to a trick-or-treat circus parade. The whole neighborhood's getting into the act!

Color perks up our party den, (a) The banner is a quickie creation from heavyweight crepe paper. With pinking shears, clip out triangles to sew onto fringe roping, then glue on stenciled letters. Crepe paper balls, fringe roping, Party Partners. Embroidered pillows, Aid to Artisans. All ribbons, Midori. (b) Acrobats, tightrope walkers, and dancers promenade. Hats, Party Partners.

Mystery Date
The invitations double as masks, (c) To make them, cut out shapes from cardstock and glue onto a slightly larger piece of cardstock in a contrast-ing color. Cut eyeholes. Decorate edges with pinking shears and a zigzag stitch. Don’t forget to punch holes for tying on ribbons. You can hand-stamp the invite info, but if you don’t want to do all that repeat stamping, just make copies on colored paper, then glue to cardstock. (d) Wishing on a painted cardboard star. Fringe, Party Partners.

hobo to go
When you run away to join the circus, you’ll definitely need a drawstring hobo bag filled with your worldly possessions—or at least a supply of Halloween treats, (e) To make this candy loot sack, double up a rectangle of organdy and stitch shut sides. Then sew a sleeve at the top and run a ribbon through to cinch it shut. Tie onto dowel with a flourish of ribbon streamers. To give the dowel that magician’s wand look, paint it first then wrap with a tight spiral of silver curling ribbon.

who is that masked child?
Work off some of that sugar buzz with party games. Opt for riddles, knock-knock jokes, even a treasure hunt. (f) Mini “chests” could contain glow bracelets, stickers, and trading cards. (g) Adorable felt slippers from Samii make perfect party footwear. For the actual trick or treating, be sure they’re wearing sturdy shoes, not plastic princess heels.
