HORSE POWER
(j) Melissa’s bulletin board is a tribute to daughter
Barbara’s love of horses, but yours could have a more generic “good luck” theme.
make it: Draw a horseshoe on poster board and cut out.
Using fabric adhesive, cover the horseshoe with batting and then a layer of
denim, wrapping edges around the back. Add trim to outside edges of horseshoe
(Melissa used vintage paper lace). Starting at the bottom left, criss-cross
ribbon, attaching with upholstery tacks. Cut a five-point star from poster board
tall and wide enough to overlap the inside of the horseshoe. Glue on ticking and
photo, then add trim. Glue star on horseshoe or use tacks. Embellish horseshoe
with pictures and ephemera by slipping under ribbon.
A PECK OF POCKETS
(k) Catherine Meek transformed an oval frame into a trinket
board. Trace the inside of the frame on poster board, cut out, then
glue on
denim, wrapping edges around the back. Reassemble frame and
glue on pockets.
String wire and curtain clips across the front for
dangling mementoes. Use it to
keep business cards, pencils, and
notepads handy. Pure jean-ius!
FADED GLORY SCRAPBOOK
(l) Designer Barbara Schriber turned jeans to cutoffs, then
mounted them on a take-apart scrapbook. Ticking wrapped over the top
third has
Western charms for buttons. Use the back cover for the
backside of the jeans.
Decorate interior pages with denim scraps and
faux leather.
