(a) Our petal palette of fuchsia, yellow, lime, pink, and orange works from floor to ceiling. The “rug” is actually a matchstick blind spray-painted a vibrant color. Lanterns, Cultural Intrigue. (b) With their perfect concentric heads, zinnias have a striking graphic presence. Just displaying them in white vases makes a powerful statement. Vases, Rosanna Inc.

(c) Multicolor paper posies by California artist Marah Johnson make sweet napkin ring toppers and place settings. Napkin and placemat, Tissage Moutet. (d) Coax a plain canvas window shade into full bloom. (e)  Handmade flowers connect the flaps of a slipcover. To make them, snip a piece of felt to dime size, then loop colored cord around the edges, tacking “petals” in place with needle and thread. Glue a button in the center.

(g) Tired of ironing? Letting the laundry pile high again? You need motivation. Perk up your laundry room with the fresh colors of summer zinnias.
