sew a pocket full of wishes
(i) You’ll need three felt placemats (two
should be
the same color), embroidery floss, and accent ribbon. Cut slit in
right-hand quadrant of top mat. Enlarge slightly in an oval shape (so
that the
felt underneath shows). Cut one of the remaining mats in half
and pin behind top
placemat. Hand-stitch to size of pocket desired.
Turn over and cut excess felt.
Slipstitch or glue ribbon to bottom edge
of slit. With wrong sides together,
hand-stitch around perimeter of
third placemat, leaving 6 to 8 inches for
stuffing or to insert pillow.

(j) Leave the tinsel and glitz behind. A serene bedroom for a

cutting-edge stocking
(k) Use any stocking pattern to create this one in felt
or heavy table flannel, but adapt the cuff to form a round corner for a collar
look with ribbon ties. You’ll need to trace the blade template (download and print template*
) onto balsa wood and cut with an X-Acto® knife. If you
prefer a thicker “blade,” cut out several pieces of wood and glue them together.
Sand edges. Use an awl to pierce holes in each upright blade. Paint wood and
hand-stitch to stocking with embroidery floss. Ribbon, Midori.
