ARTIST’S PROFILE Sharon Wisely and Chris Schwartz eschew the term “artists”
when talking about the exciting paper arts projects they create and design for
Red Lead PaperWorks, the St. Louis-based store they’ve co-owned since 1991. “We
think of ourselves as artful crafters,” Sharon says. “Craft is something
everyone can do. What we do best is inspire people to create beautiful things
for themselves and their homes.” Known for their vintage style with a modern
twist, the sisters love working together.
forever family
Sharon and Chris assembled cherished family photos, scanned
them into the computer, and printed them in black and white to lend
cohesiveness. Photos, paper, and trinkets were artfully attached to stiff
cardboard, enabling the accordion-fold book to serve as both scrapbook and a
stand-alone art piece. “We’re not really scrapbookers,” Chris notes. “We love
rubber stamps and card-making and creating home décor using paper. This book
means a lot to us because we lost our mother a few years ago and it was
wonderful to combine and express our family memories using paper arts.” source

ARTIST’S TOP TIPS
Use a gold marker to embellish cardboard edges for a
finished look. Tone down bright papers or busy patterns by dry brushing a
small amount of cream-colored paint on them. Choose colors in the same
tone when mixing pattern papers. It keeps patterns from visually fighting.
