You know that a flea market is worth its salt if it can get Molly Leach and
Lane Smith out of bed early on a weekend morning. “We’ve found some great folk
art and furniture at Elephant’s Trunk,” Lane says. “Because I’m a nerd, I’ve
bought a lot of View-Master reels and Charlie Brown dolls.” The team that
brought you such children’s book standouts as The True Story of the Three Little
Pigs! (with author Jon Scieszka) and John, Paul, George & Ben moved here
four years ago. “We’re surrounded by other children’s book writers and
illustrators,” notes Lane. “I think they’re attracted to the landscape and the
funny little cottages because the place looks like it came out of a
storybook.”
