Bloomin' Bags
Californian Marina Gilboa packs pocketbooks with posies, creating
gifts that keep on giving long after mere bouquets fade away. Bag a bounty of
blossoms to tote to a pal or to adorn your own tabletop
How to make it:
• Try a few of Marina’s favorite bouquets that combine flowers and
foliage chosen for scent and hue: Mix red or pink roses with geranium leaves and
fresh herbs, especially mint, or blend lilac branches with fucshia roses and
chartreuse ranunculus. “These bouquets work well because they’re so fragrant,
have palettes that are pleasing to the eye, and bring joy with their happy and
cheerful colors,” says Marina. • Choose sturdy, flat-bottomed bags. • Line with
gift-basket cellophane. • Fit watertight containers snugly in bottom. • Try
woody-stemmed roses, hydrangea, and stock that stand without picks. • Establish
the front and turn as you go to balance blooms. • Tuck in balled-up paper to
steady arrangement.
