Create a Halloween scene! host a bash with a funky folk-art attitude
(a) Make like a tramp artist. Our bottle-cap bowls combine form and
function with recycled objects. (b) With Halloween imagery hidden deep
inside, this cap-clad bowl brings whimsical dimension to year-round displays.
Don't like these colors? Devise a palette that complements your décor. (c) Transform
any unappealing bottle caps with spray paint or stickers-we added black
stickers, to some of the caps for eye-catching contrast.
*For a 12" diameter bowl with 5 rows of bottle caps fitted tightly
together, you will need 125-150 bottle caps.

Pop Our Tops...For These Not-So-Tricky Treat Bowls!
Bottle-cap compositions were a popular craft activity from the 1930s through
the '50s. Today's folk artists use metal soda-pop tops for everything
from
frames to sculptures.
How to make 'em:
Bowl 'em over with handmade vessels packed with treats.
1.
Find wooden bowls at kitchen or department stores. With fine-grit sandpaper,
remove finish. 2. Collect used or buy new, unused bottle caps* (our orange ones
are from ARTchix Studio). 3. Paint bowl with black acrylic paint. Let dry. 4.
Use orange acrylic paint for freehand decoration on rim. Let dry. 5. Paint or
découpage cat image into bottom of bowl (Click here for how to). 6.
Gently "distress" paint with sandpaper. Coat with Minwax Golden Oak Wood
Finish®. Let dry for two days. 7. Seal with Minwax Polycrylic Protective
Finish® in Satin. Let dry. 8. Turn bowl upside down. Hot glue a row of caps
near top rim. Pay attention to spacing to avoid awkward gaps. NOTE: Apply hot
glue to the back edges of each cap—be careful not to burn your fingers. Press
caps to bowl for a few seconds until they stick. Repeat for each row.

Hanging Beaded Votive Lanterns
It’s amazing what a little creativity and imagination can do with even the most ordinary objects. For example, these fanciful hanging lanterns were made from dog food cans, wire and some inexpensive glass beads. (The beaded bracelet napkin rings described below, which can double as party favors, are constructed the same way).| read more » |
